Nokia has announced that it is hiring a telecom engineer to build its telecoms business unit, and startech is the company’s new digital marketing company.
The announcement on Thursday by the Finnish company came after its parent company, Nokia, said it would spend $8.7 billion to buy startech, a start-up that provides online marketing services to Nokia devices.
The Nokia-Startech deal would create a new digital agency, with a senior digital marketing executive.
The move would create more than a dozen new jobs in the digital agency.
The Nokia-startech deal is expected to close in 2021.
The new digital team will help Nokia’s smartphone and mobile service business to stay competitive, said a statement from the Finnish government and Nokia.
The start-ups digital agency will help to develop new products and services that will help the company to compete in the mobile phone market, it said.
The digital agency team will be based in the Helsinki office of Startech, the Finnish start-uppliance, the government said.
Nokia said it will create a start up company focused on developing new products, services and applications that will benefit Nokia customers, Nokia said.
Startech will also help Nokia to better support its business operations, such as the production of smartphones and other mobile phones.
Nissan, the world’s second-largest automaker, is the biggest shareholder in Nokia and is also planning to invest in startech.
Nomura analyst Takashi Uchiyama said Nissan is looking at the start-tech business as a potential future investor.
“Nissan is looking into the startech business, and there’s some competition between the two companies,” he said.
“It’s not clear if the start of the car manufacturing division will be involved with the car, but we will see.”
A company spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
