Fergus and Lizzy Farnsworth were looking for an internet service provider (ISP) to provide a range of applications, including internet-connected televisions, smart devices and more.
They said they had come across Uae Telecom Engineering in a different market, but the company had no idea of their needs.
“It was a great opportunity, but we knew we wanted to do more than just a simple service, we wanted it to be a service that we could run on our own equipment,” Fergus said.
“We were looking to make it something we could do for a wide range of customers, we couldn’t just provide internet for one customer.”
They quickly realised they were in the right place when they decided to take on the project.
“I was very confident in our plans and our vision, but I was also very nervous,” said Fergus.
“That’s when we decided to work with our local network, we found out there was quite a bit of interest, we thought it would be great to make sure we got the right people in there, to build the right infrastructure.” “
They have built a small network using existing equipment and have been very successful. “

They have built a small network using existing equipment and have been very successful.
“This network has been running successfully since 2014,” Ferg said.
The Farnsworths had originally set out to do an internet-only service but found it was not an ideal use case for the small network.
“In the end, we decided it was better to build it to meet the needs of the wider community,” he said.
They built a network that includes fibre optic lines, which are capable of providing up to 250Mbps download and 500Mbps upload, and copper connections for fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) connections.
The network has seen an average of 50,000 connections a month.
“Since then we’ve been able to get around 40,000 people connected, and our business has grown,” he added.
“So we’ve seen the network grow, and it’s grown by around 10 per cent a year.”
Uae has also helped the Farnsworth’s expand their broadband offerings.
“The best thing we’ve ever done for the business was actually buy fibre to the node, we got to do it by ourselves and we’ve built our own infrastructure, we’ve put all the wiring up, and the internet is here,” Fagust said.
Ferg has been able make connections with Uae’s network through their fibre network and Uae are now using it to connect customers to the Farnsons broadband network.
This allows them to provide more bandwidth for the Farnhams devices and allows them more freedom over their services.
“Uae is a very efficient company,” Fagnows said.
